Well, it's taken me a whole week to write this... every time I thought about writing I'd just get upset ... anyway, last Tuesday we made the momentous and very emotional decision to let our old Alaskan Malamute go to rest after 11 wonderful years together. He'd been on painkillers and anti-inflammatories for his arthritis for quite some time, but of course we knew all along we were only delaying the inevitable. Monty was a wonderful old boy ... larger than life (a whopping 65kgs in his prime) and absolutely LOVED water. We used to take him to the beach for a walk and he'd stick his head (yes, his whole head!) in the water and looked for all the world like he was 'sniffing around' in rock pools! One of the giant breeds of dogs, he was a gentle giant with a really beautiful temperament. We will miss him dreadfully, but our hearts have been eased a little by the wonderful girls at Pets at Peace who took care of everything. Monty's ashes have been delivered back to us (so in our hearts he's back home) and we're planning to lay him to rest in a beautiful shady spot in our small tropical garden. RIP my friend. xoxoxo Marg

Well I certainly feel for you Marg ... losing a family pet is really like losing a family member. Tis better he is at rest than in pain and I'm sure you have lots of wonderful memories to hold on to. I dread the thought of losing our Woody.

Marg, my thoughts and heart are definitely with you at this sad time, our furry K9 friends are great companions and its so hard to make that decision to say goodbye, it certainly is a tough one, but you have made the right decision no matter how hard it is right now.
Take care and remember all the good times you shared.

Oh Marg, I'm so sorry, it is such a hard decision to let them go like that, it is never easy, my heart is still broken after 5 years gone by when I had to let my old boy go too. I found this beautiful poem on the internet back then and just love it so much.....I hope you like it too
NO WONDER HE WAGS HIS TAIL
When God made the earth and sky The flowers and the trees He then made all the animals And all the birds and bees And when his work was finished Not one was quite the same He said,"I'll walk this earth of mine And give each one a name" And so he travelled land and sea And everywhere he went A little creature followed him Until it's strength was spent When all were named upon the earth And in the sky and sea The little creature said "Dear Lord There's not one left for me" The Father smiled and softly said "I've left you to the end I've turned my own name back to front And called you Dog, my friend"

Dear Marg! I am sorry to learn you had to let your beloved dog go. You were so lucky to share his life for such a long time. 11 years is a very advance age for such a big dog. No wonder why it is hard let him go... I am sure he had a wonderful life and you definitely made the best choice. Please, do not be too sad as I am sure he can see you and does not like when you are sad! What about making a memory bear or dog? Just an idea... I am sure installing him in your garden is a great choice. All the best, Lots of hugs, Sophie.

Marg, I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Monty. I too have felt the pain of losing a family pet when I made the decision to let my 17yr old cat go. That was years & years ago but I still miss him. Our pets truly are part of the family and it is never easy to let them go. Cherish always the memories you have of your Monty. To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die.--Thomas Campbell bear hugs....Brenda
